BIOGRAPHY
Mohamad Badr
CONCEPTUAL ARTIST
Based in Dubai, Dreaming about the world.
Mohamad Badr is a Lebanese artist based in Dubai, known for his conceptual and experimental photography that challenges perceptions of social issues, human behavior, and cultural duality. His work has earned multiple awards, including the 2011 Shabab Ayyam Photography award and the Live Achrafieh Honorary Award. He was also nominated for the Prix Pictet in 2012, with his photography featured in Power by teNeues, Uncommon Dubai, Samawi Collection II, and various regional art publications. Badr’s provocative solo show, The Power of…, at Ayyam Gallery, Beirut (2012), and his series Dreamer in Dubai, permanently displayed at Dubai Design District, underscore his distinctive style. Utilizing in-camera multiple exposures and slow shutter techniques, he creates ‘visual structures’ that uncover hidden stories and explore the dualities of human and cultural identities. Expanding his conceptual practice, Badr is now venturing into short art films with poetic narratives, further exploring the depths of societal and personal identity through evocative visual language.

ART STYLE
The often conceptual & experimental photographs and installations of Lebanese artist Mohamad Badr elucidate his deep concern for social issues and his curiosity to explore human behavior and intimate territories. He started investigating the daily lives of locals in remote and extra- ordinary places, where his poetic documentation of rites of passage - from the blood-letting Ashoura rituals in Nabatiyeh, Lebanon, to the Shivaratri rituals and public cremations in Kathmandu, Nepal and the daily struggles of locals in the informal settlement of Langa township, in Cape Town, South Africa - Mohamad questions the dynamics of cultural experience and the power structures contained therein. His recent works is a conceptual experimentation with in-camera multiple exposures where he is “exploring the deepest secrets of humans and cities and uncovering the duality of souls & cultural identities” in a 'visual structures’ format.
